Today, North Dakota legislators introduced House Bill 1596, aiming to reduce penalties for possession of small amounts of marijuana and THC. The bill proposes noncriminal citations for individuals possessing less than half an ounce of marijuana or under two grams of THC.
While proponents believe this law will alleviate the judicial system, the North Dakota Chiefs of Police Association oppose the bill, viewing it as a step toward legalization—a measure previously rejected by voters in November 2024. The House Judiciary Committee is set to review the bill this week.
